On Tuesday, July 16th, the Welland Tribune printed an article about the Welland Soccer Club (WSC) becoming independent from the City of Welland. We want to assure our members that this transition, which has been in progress for nearly 2 years, is backed by the City of Welland and Oak View Group (OVG), the management company of the Youngs Sportsplex. This milestone was first announced at our AGM in November 2022, when we took over the registration process for our Wizard Academy and Travel Team programs.
What Does This Mean for Our Players and Families?
For our members, daily operations will remain the same. You will continue to enjoy outstanding soccer at the Youngs Sportsplex, guided by our dedicated and skilled coaches, all within our supportive and family-friendly environment. The most noticeable change was the shift to our new online registration link which allowed us to directly manage our program registrations. We are proud to say that our programming has never been more diverse, inclusive, and successful.
The Welland Soccer Club and the Oak View Group maintain a strong partnership. The WSC will be the primary user of the world-class Youngs Sportsplex facility. This change in governance ensures that as we continue to grow, we will have a dedicated team focused exclusively on the club’s development. Our Wizards will carry on representing the City of Welland with pride and honor.
